MATV/COMMUNAL AERIAL INSTALLERS
An MATV or Master Antenna Television System is a more restricted offering compared to IRS, allowing residents to receive Analogue or Digital Terrestrial TV (Freeview) and FM and DAB (digital audio band) radio.
MATV is an ideal choice for more budget restricted housing projects and particularly for the public sector such as affordable housing, prisons or hospitals. This was very popular before IRS systems became available due to the launch of Sky TV.
As the name implies, an MATV System consists of a TV Aerial which is able to receive both analogue and digital signals and a DAB radio aerial. A very simple example of MATV would be a house with an TV & Radio Aerial on it’s roof feeding down to a number of TV & Radio points in various rooms. The only difference is the scale of the number of points and the extra equipment used to allow the signal to be strong enough to give good picture and sound quality.
